Every few months, any interested corporate employee gets a chance to show off their skills in what we like to call an “Off” challenge. Past iterations of these challenges have consisted of events like the Bacon-Off (now going on five years running), Casserole-Off, and Retro-Off, just to name a few. Being in the holiday spirit this past December, cookies were popping up in the office left and right. Soon enough, the gauntlet was thrown down and the date was set for the 2012 Cookie-Off.
Entries included everything from classics like Russian Tea Cookies to newly created, and surprisingly tasty Salted Potato Chip Cookies. A few contestants took things to an entirely different level. Leave it up to Kellee Makins (Visual Merchandising Manager) to her Toasted Marshmallow Chocolate Cookies, toasting each to order with her chef’s torch. Lara Hine (Director of Store Operations) took the term cookie rather loosely. Though her Oatmeal “Cookies” were served chilled, they warmed up the tasting panel just as well as a baked treat straight from the oven.
In the end, after all of the votes had been tallied, Will Schoentrup (VP of IT) took home the coveted “Off” trophy. His Turtle Cookie bested that of many past winners along with a few newcomers. That classic blend of chocolate, caramel, and toasted pecans was just too good. Congratulations, Will!
