Welcome to our monthly book club! I’m our book buyer here at Sur La Table, and each month I’m going to share a favorite cookbook from our collection. I must tell you, I have been a big fan of cookbooks since I was a kid. Growing up here in Seattle, I would frequent our Pike Place store a lot. My dad and I had the annual Christmas shopping date where I would head to his office downtown and help him file papers (made a cool $5 doing that) and then we would leave the office around lunch to start our afternoon of shopping, which always ended at Sur La Table.
I loved getting lost in that store as a kid — the creaky old floors, the abundance of merchandise and the task of finding my mom the perfect cookbook gift. Despite the fact that I only wanted to eat cheeseburgers and tomatoes (world’s biggest fan of tomatoes right here), I loved cooking with my parents as a kid. My mother is big collector of cookbooks, not to mention old Bon Appétit magazines. It was inevitable I would turn into a book collector let alone SLT’s book buyer!
With introductions out of the way, we kick off our book club with the hottest new book, Inspiralized: Turn Vegetables into Healthy, Creative Satisfying Meals by Ali Maffucci of the super popular blog, Inspiralized. With summer approaching quickly, I know you are all out there eating healthily — low-carb this, gluten-free that … I get it. You want to look great in that bathing suit. This book can help! Inspiralized has recipes for everything from breakfast to dinner that are easy and, more important, delicious! Ali has made it easy to follow a healthy lifestyle, and she shows how spiralizing isn’t just about zucchini pasta — although we do love that here in the office.
My personal favorite from this book is the spicy shrimp lettuce wraps with coconut-lime jicama rice. Yeah, think about what I just said … jicama rice. Who knew?! These little mouthwatering wonders were heaven, and for kicks I drizzled on some sriracha because, like everyone else, I use sriracha on just about everything. So get on board with healthier cooking this summer. You won’t be disappointed with this book! You can even give it a test drive and try one of the recipes at home.
