Pumpkin pie again? (Yawn.) Isn’t it time to try something new and different for your holiday dessert table this year? Yes, I agree pumpkin pie is THE traditional dessert for Thanksgiving but, while I love it, my husband’s family unanimously does not.
In the past I’ve made apple pie, pecan pie, chocolate pie, ice cream s’more pie and basically anything but pumpkin. This year for Thanksgiving I’ll be going the cheesecake route, specifically mini cheesecakes, because after a huge dinner who needs a large dessert? My gracious sister-in-law is hosting Thanksgiving dinner at her house again this year (an intimate dinner for about 30 people) so I figure small “grab and go” desserts may be just the thing.
Are you looking for alternatives to traditional pumpkin pie? If you love that pumpkin flavor you could always try pumpkin cheesecake this year. Try your hand at our bourbon-pumpkin cheesecake, upside-down pumpkin caramel cheesecake, or even our no-bake pumpkin cheesecake, for something that’s a bit less time-consuming.
Still craving delicious, homemade pie? Classic apple pie is usually a crowd pleaser. Not serving a crowd this Thanksgiving? Try our recipe for Flaky Apple Pinwheels for a quick and easy dessert for four. You don’t even have to make pie crust for this one—just buy frozen puff pastry at the store. Easy peasy!
If you want a dessert you can make ahead, our moist, delicious Chocolate Velvet Pound Cake recipe is a great option. You can bake these mini cakes way before your event and then wrap them up and freeze for up to eight weeks. After thawing, simply top them with a glaze of rich chocolate ganache, a bit of whipped cream or your favorite garnish and, with every bite, enjoy the time you saved!
Need something even easier? You can have dessert delivered to your door!
What’s on your dessert table this Thanksgiving?
