Vibrant photos of colorful, seasonal dishes immediately drew us in to The Modern Proper. We stayed for smart recipes featuring some unexpected—but oh so delicious—flavor combinations. Natalie Mortimer and Holly Erickson started The Modern Proper as a way to share their love for food and gathering people at the table. With engaging, conversational posts, they invite you to take a seat and discover their modern take on hospitality—one amazing meal at a time.
You’ll get a taste of The Modern Proper on pages 20-21 of our August catalog. We invited Natalie and Holly to develop a recipe using our new GreenPan Champagne Ceramic Collection, then design and photograph a layout in their signature style. Read on to learn more about The Modern Proper in their own words.

Natalie and Holly designed, styled, and photographed their August catalog feature.
The Modern Proper is a story of numbers: Two friends, five children, and one beautiful Pacific Northwest. All totaled, these are our greatest influences and the driving force behind all we do.

A true team effort, the creation of our posts usually involves one person stirring tirelessly on the stove or balancing on a stool with a camera in hand, while the other entertains the kids. Most of the recipes you’ll find on The Modern Proper are from scratch, written and developed by us, or adapted from recipes that have inspired us in the past.

Flavors of fall: Turkey Pumpkin Chili
Our mission is to reinvent proper and the lost art of hospitality for the modern homemaker. For us, this means creating flavorful, seasonal food with the sole purpose of bringing people together. Inviting others around your table is a beautiful way to strengthen friendships and build community, because sharing food and sharing your home inevitably leads to sharing your life.
