For those of you still scrounging for Father’s Day gift ideas, we asked a few of the dads in our Seattle headquarters to share their Father’s Day wish lists with us. Here’s what SLT dads are hoping to get this Sunday …
“I dream of these 3 things:
1. An instructional course on how to cook perfect scallops. I love scallops and have never tried to cook them myself but would love to know how. [Ed. note: there’s still time to enroll in this cooking class!]
2. Some more supplies and, most of all, the time to brew another batch of home brew. Last summer I brewed a batch of pale ale, and it was amazing but now it’s all gone … sigh.
3. A chance to spend a year traveling and eating with Anthony Bourdain. That man has the best job ever.” – Jason Pope, Visual Merchandising
“I want my little girl to hand-paint me a coffee mug from Dancing Brush Studio in Ballard (coffee is food, right?). Sounds corny, but she made a bowl for my mom on Mother’s Day and it turned out awesome — a real tear jerker. I think there are a few really important pieces that come out of childhood, and this has the potential to be one of them. The kind of thing that’s still around the house once you’re fully grown.” – Dean Fuller, Catalog Creative
“I want bacon! And not just any bacon — I want the very best bacon: Benton’s Hickory Smoked Country Bacon from Tennessee! You can cure bacon in 7 to 14 days, but at Benton’s they cure it for a minimum of 21 days and then smoke it for 48 hours.” – Phillip Stevenson, Store Operations
“The longer I work at Sur La Table, the better our kitchen knives become. I don’t get more knives, but I do replace our existing knives with better ones. The other day, I realized that while we have several so-so paring knives, we don’t have a really good one. So for Father’s Day, kids, let’s fix that.
Happily, we sell two of the best paring knives out there (according to my favorite kitchen reviewers The Sweethome and Cook’s Illustrated) the Victorinox Fibrox Pro and the Wüsthof Classic. Fingers crossed for the Wüsthof, since it’s a splurge, but we’ve got my employee discount.
Also, kids, don’t forget that you can’t go wrong by swinging by Full Throttle Bottles and picking up some good hard cider. (You should get some fancy sodas for yourselves while you’re there.)” – James Callan, Ecommerce
“For Father’s Day I’d like a SodaStream soda maker. I drink diet cola and I know how bad it is for me. The chemical sweeteners are bad enough but the coloring has been found to be a carcinogen! I like having a cold, fizzy drink but I want to make a more economical, healthier choice. Also, I just can’t stand going through those disposable plastic bottles anymore. I recycle them, but I can’t justify buying them. So, SodaStream it is! Better for me, better for the environment, and I still get the drink I crave — all while saving money!” – Lupe Carlos, Visual Merchandising
“I want 3 months of salami!” – Pete Graham, Digital Creative
